About
Throwing Knives
Throwing Knives are deadly
weapons in the hands of any Samurai or Ninja who has
mastered the art of throwing them accurately. The main
characteristics of a throwing knife are the shape of them
with a large blade in comparison to the overall knife's
size, which has a distinctly pointed tip and is usually the
only part of the blade which is sharp. Another
characteristic with the majority of throwing knives is that
they are a lot thinner than you would expect as well as
having a great balance when comparing the weight of the
handle to the actual blade.
A throwing knife is designed
to be aero dynamic which assists in both the accuracy of
the knife when thrown, as well as the distance it will
travel given a certain throwing force. The design of the
blade is deceptively simple in appearance, yet when you
look a little closer you will see it is designed with the
results being it's only objective. The tip of the blade is
usually very pointy with the edge of the blade only being
sharpened up to the point where the width of the blade
starts to narrow as it heads towards the handle.
This gives the tip of
the knife the ability to easily penetrate
the skins surface, while the remainder of the knife’s sole
purpose is to push the blade point deeper into
the target. Much like that of a nail. The nail point
breaks through allowing the remainder of the nail to
follow less encumbered, which makes forcing the point even
deeper a lot easier. The Handle is simply something to hold
onto so as to be able to throw the knife as well as being
extra weight to ram home the point of the blade. Due to the
way the point is sharpened it leaves most of the knife’s
surface smooth, which reduces the possibility of the
user being cut by it.
Most throwing knives were
black or a dark matt color, which helped to minimize
someone spotting them due to the reflection of light off of
the steel. Ninja are the ones who used throwing knives and
would normally use them when attacking a target or as a
quick means of dropping a fleeing target if they were still
within range.
